Renuka ji is recognized by its cultural and religious value and it is also famous for its lake, zoo and lion safari. Renuka is 66o mtr above from the sea level and the interesting thing about ‘Renuka Lake’ is shaped like a woman. The story behind this fact is, “Goddess Renuka” committed suicide by falling down from the mountain and the place where goddess ‘Renuka ji’ felled was formed as a lake. It is the largest lake in Himachal Pradesh. This lake was named after goddess Renuka. Wild Life Sanctuary of Renuka is comprised only by Renuka Reserve Forest. Renuka’s Zoo includes Lions, Tigers, Deer’s, Leopard, Bears and many different types of birds which also include our National bird. Renuka zoo is the oldest zoo in Himachal Pradesh and first animal brought to the zoo was Spotted Deer.


Renukaji is connected by road. It is 315 km from Delhi. The nearest rail head is at Ambala (95 km) Dehradun (105km) and Chandigarh (95 km). The nearest airports are at Chandigarh and Dehradun. Taxis/buses are available for Renukaji at all places.


In winter, the climate is pleasant and light woolens are suggested. Summer temperature are high and cottons are recommended.
